One would think that when something becomes very popular, or maybe I should say viral, everyone would know exactly what that thing is all about. Yes, I am thinking of how the popularity of infographics has skyrocketed, and yet it seems that there are still people who are not quite sure they understand the concept fully.
I could go on and on about the definition of an infographic. I can point you to Wikipedia for that matter. Then again, why should I do that when there is an infographic about what an infographic is!
Talk about meta, but this is actually a good infographic that I think everyone should take a look at. And I mean everyone. Whether you are thinking of entering the infographic design business in the near – or distant – future or you’re considering using infographics for whatever reason, going back to the basics will definitely give you a solid foundation. Something that can never be valued enough.
The infographic is called “What Infographics Are”, and I like to think of it as a neat summary of what a course called “Infographics 101” – if there were one. It begins with the simplest of definitions: “[An infographic is] an image containing graphics and text including statistics about a certain subject.”
Really, how much simpler can you get?
The infographics goes deeper, though, which is especially good for those who want to get more valuable information. For example, you can take a look at some reasons infographics have become so popular.

More than that, the infographic briefly touches on two different variations of the medium: one-level deep and two-level deep. Did you know about such a distinction?
